JEECUP 2026 Round 3 choice filling opens on July 16. Three days from today. This is the last round in Phase 1 — and Phase 1 is reserved exclusively for UP domicile candidates. Once Round 3 closes and seat withdrawals are processed on July 25, the remaining vacant seats move into Phase 2 where candidates from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and every other state become your competition.

If you are a UP candidate who still does not have a seat you want — Round 3 is your most important opportunity. If you have a seat you are satisfied with, this article tells you exactly what to do right now to protect it.

Who Should Participate in Round 3 – and Who Should Freeze Right Now

Not every candidate needs to fill choices in Round 3. Read which situation applies to you before logging in on July 16.

You should participate in Round 3 if:

  • You completed JEECUP 2026 counselling registration but received no seat allotment in either Round 1 or Round 2
  • You received a Round 2 seat but selected Float — meaning you want to try for something better in Round 3
  • You received a Round 1 or Round 2 seat but it is in a branch or college significantly below your preference and you chose Float hoping for an upgrade

You should Freeze right now — before Round 3 opens — if:

  • You have a current seat allotment from Round 1 or Round 2 that you are genuinely happy with
  • You want to lock in your current seat and attend document verification at your district Help Centre on July 21–24

Freezing means you accept your current allotment and exit the active counselling process. You then visit your district Help Centre for document verification during July 21–24, pay your security and counselling fee, and complete admission at your allotted institute by July 30. Your seat is confirmed. You do not participate in Round 3.

Do not float into Round 3 casually. If Round 3 does not give you something better and you were floating from Round 2, your Round 2 seat is still held — but the window to complete formalities is tight. Every round that passes with you floating reduces the time available to complete admission by the July 30 deadline.

JEECUP 2026 Round 3 Counselling: Choice Filling, Who Should Participate and What Seats Are Left

What Seats Are Actually Available in Round 3 — The Realistic Picture

Round 3 seats come from two sources. First, seats that were never filled in Rounds 1 or 2 because no candidate listed them or ranked them high enough. Second, seats vacated by candidates who upgraded — students who had a Round 1 seat and moved to a better Round 2 allotment, leaving their Round 1 seat back in the pool.

Here is the honest reality by branch after two rounds of JEECUP 2026 counselling:

CSE and IT at government polytechnics in major UP cities: Lucknow, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Agra — these closed in Round 1 or Round 2. A Round 3 allotment at these specific colleges in CSE or IT is unlikely for most rank bands. Students who did not get these in two rounds should adjust expectations for Round 3.

CSE and ECE at district-level government polytechnics: Still possible in Round 3 at government polytechnics in smaller districts — Jaunpur, Bijnor, Ayodhya, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Balrampur, Shravasti, Maharajganj. These colleges have government affiliation and identical BTEUP diploma certificates. Students whose choice lists in Rounds 1 and 2 were limited to major cities missed these seats. Add every district-level government polytechnic to your Round 3 list.

Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, EEE: These branches have the most residual government seats in Round 3. If your goal is government employment through SSC JE, RRB JE, or UP state technical recruitment, Civil and Mechanical at a government polytechnic in Round 3 gives you exactly what you need — and these seats are genuinely still available.

Private BTEUP-affiliated polytechnics: Seats across all branches at private colleges remain available throughout all five rounds. These are accessible at every rank. Verify BTEUP affiliation at bteup.ac.in before accepting any private allotment.

How to Fill Round 3 Choices — Exact Steps on jeecup.admissions.nic.in

  1. Open jeecup.admissions.nic.in on July 16 when choice filling opens.
  2. Log in with your Application Number and Password.
  3. On your counselling dashboard, click the Round 3 Choice Filling link.
  4. Browse the available colleges and branches. Check the current seat matrix at jeecup.admissions.nic.in — it shows remaining seats per college, branch, and category after Round 2 allotments.
  5. Add your preferred college-branch combinations in order of preference. Your first choice should be what you want most. Your last choice should be what you would still accept.
  6. Fill as many choices as possible. There is no penalty for more choices. A candidate who fills 50 realistic options almost always gets at least one government polytechnic allotment. A candidate who fills 8 optimistic choices and misses them gets nothing.
  7. Save your choices regularly — the portal logs out after inactivity.
  8. Before the deadline, click Lock Choices. Locked choices cannot be changed.
  9. Download and print the confirmation page.

One specific correction many students need to make in Round 3: expand your geographic range. If your Round 1 and Round 2 lists were concentrated in 2–3 cities, Round 3 is the time to add government polytechnics from every district in your region. The seat you want may be sitting in a college you never considered because you were focused on the obvious names.

If Round 3 Still Gives You No Seat — What Comes Next

Round 3 is the last round exclusively for UP candidates, but it is not the last round in JEECUP 2026 counselling. Phase 2 begins after the July 25 seat withdrawal deadline.

Round 4 opens to candidates from all states, not just UP. The freeze/float and security fee payment window for Round 4 runs July 31 to August 3, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Document verification for Round 4 freeze candidates: July 31 to August 4.

Round 5 choice filling opens August 6 to 10. Round 5 seat allotment: August 11. Document verification: August 12 to 14. Seat withdrawal deadline: August 15.

These dates are from the official JEECUP 2026 counselling schedule published at jeecup.admissions.nic.in and confirmed by FreePressJournal’s complete schedule report.

In Rounds 4 and 5, the competition increases because other-state candidates join. However, the seats available also include any that were not filled by UP candidates across all three rounds — and historically, a significant number of seats at smaller district government polytechnics remain vacant after Phase 1. UP candidates with lower ranks who could not get a seat in Rounds 1 through 3 have won government polytechnic seats in Phase 2 by filling comprehensive choice lists.

Academic session 2026–27 commences August 1. Candidates admitted through Rounds 1 to 3 must complete all admission formalities at their allotted institute by 5:00 PM on July 30. Phase 2 admissions follow a separate reporting schedule after August 11.

Students Ask — Round 3 Questions Answered Directly

I chose Float after Round 2 — do I need to register again for Round 3?

No. Your counselling registration from earlier rounds carries forward. Log in to jeecup.admissions.nic.in with your existing Application Number and Password on July 16 and fill your Round 3 choices directly.

I was not allotted any seat in Round 1 or Round 2 — am I automatically in Round 3?

Yes, provided you completed your initial counselling registration and paid the ₹3,000 seat acceptance fee. You do not need to register again. Log in on July 16 and fill your choices.

Can I change the choices I filled in Round 2 for Round 3?

Yes. Each round has a fresh choice filling window. Your Round 2 choices do not carry forward. You start with a clean slate in Round 3 and fill a new set of preferences. This is an opportunity — fill a wider, more realistic list than you did in earlier rounds.

I have a Round 2 seat at a private college — should I try for a government seat in Round 3?

Yes, if government college access is your priority. Select Float (if you have not already), fill Round 3 choices with every government polytechnic offering your branch in your region, and see what the allotment gives. If Round 3 gives you a government seat, move to it. If not, return to your Round 2 private college seat and Freeze before the July 30 deadline.

What is the difference between Rounds 1–3 and Rounds 4–5 for me as a UP candidate?

Rounds 1–3 are exclusively for UP domicile candidates — you compete only against other UP students. In Rounds 4 and 5, candidates from Bihar, Rajasthan, MP, and other states compete for the same seats. Your rank advantage as a UP candidate is strongest in Rounds 1–3. Use it fully before Phase 2 opens.

I have a good Round 2 seat — should I Freeze or Float for Round 3?

If you are genuinely satisfied with your Round 2 allotment in terms of both college and branch, Freeze now. Visit your district Help Centre for document verification during July 21–24, complete admission formalities by July 30, and begin your diploma. Floating into Round 3 for a marginal upgrade risks disruption without meaningful gain. Freeze if you are happy. Float only if your current seat represents a significant compromise on branch or college.
