If you’re a student in Uttar Pradesh who wants to join a polytechnic diploma course this year, JEECUP 2026 is the exam that gets you there. The Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh runs this exam annually and uses it to fill seats in government and private polytechnic colleges across the state.

The window to apply is open right now. It closes on April 30. That is 18 days from today.

This guide covers everything — who can apply, how to apply, what the exam looks like, and what happens after results.

What Is JEECUP and Why Does It Matter

JEECUP stands for Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh. The exam is officially called UPJEE(P) — Uttar Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnic.

Through this exam, you can get admission to:

  • Engineering diploma courses (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Electronics, and 25+ other branches)
  • Pharmacy diploma (D. Pharma)
  • Non-engineering courses (Fashion Design, Hotel Management, Printing Technology, and more)
  • Post-diploma and lateral entry courses for students who already hold a diploma

JEECUP is the only route into government polytechnic colleges in UP. These institutions — under the Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh (BTEUP) — charge nominal fees and offer strong placement outcomes in manufacturing, infrastructure, and technical roles across the state.

For students who want a practical, employment-ready qualification at a reasonable cost, JEECUP-to-BTEUP is one of the most underrated paths in Indian technical education.

How to Apply — Step by Step

Go to https://jeecup.admissions.nic.in

Step 1 — Registration: Click on “New Registration.” Enter your basic details — name, mobile number, email ID, and date of birth. You’ll receive an OTP on your mobile. Verify it. A system-generated application number and password will be sent to your mobile and email. Save these — you’ll need them for every future login.

Step 2 — Fill the Application Form: Log in with your new credentials. Fill in personal details (name exactly as in Class 10/12 certificate), category, address, qualifying exam details, and the group/course you’re applying for.

Step 3 — Upload Documents:

  • Passport photograph (JPG, 10–50 KB, clear white background)
  • Signature (JPG, 5–20 KB, signed on white paper)
  • Both must be recent and recognisable

Step 4 — Select Exam Centre Districts: You can choose districts in order of preference for your exam centre. The actual centre is allotted by JEECUP and printed on the admit card.

Step 5 — Pay the Fee: Pay ₹300 (General/OBC) or ₹200 (SC/ST) online. Download and save the payment receipt. Without fee payment, your application is incomplete regardless of how well the rest is filled.

Step 6 — Download Confirmation: After successful submission, download your application confirmation slip. It has your application number, selected group, exam fee details, and other particulars. Keep it safe.

The Exam — What to Expect

Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) — online, conducted at designated exam centres

Exam dates: May 15 to 22, 2026 (group-wise schedule will be announced on jeecup.admissions.nic.in)

Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes)

Total questions: 100

Marking scheme: 4 marks for every correct answer, 1 mark deducted for every wrong answer

Negative marking: Yes — unlike POLYCET, JEECUP penalises wrong answers. This changes the strategy significantly. Do not guess randomly. Attempt questions you know or can reasonably eliminate options on. Leave questions where you have no idea.

Group A Syllabus — Engineering (What’s Asked)

For the most popular Group A (Engineering Diploma), the exam is based on Class 10 Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry:

Mathematics (50 questions): Number Systems, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, Mensuration. Questions from Coordinate Geometry and Quadratic Equations appear every year.

Physics (25 questions): Units and Measurement, Motion, Force, Work and Energy, Electricity, Optics, Sound. Numerical-type questions are common.

Chemistry (25 questions): Matter and its States, Acids/Bases/Salts, Carbon and its Compounds, Periodic Table, Metals and Non-Metals, Chemical Reactions.

The pattern closely mirrors Class 10 board exam content. If you scored well in your UP Board or CBSE Class 10, you have already done most of the preparation. The main difference is that JEECUP is MCQ-only and has negative marking — so selective answering matters more than attempting everything.

Admit Card — Download in Last Week of April

The JEECUP 2026 admit card will be available at jeecup.admissions.nic.in in the last week of April 2026. You’ll need your application number and password to download it.

The admit card carries your exam date, exam slot, exam centre address, roll number, photograph, and exam-day instructions. Print it. Laminating it is not necessary, but it should be intact — crumpled or torn admit cards occasionally cause issues at centre gates.

Also carry on exam day: One original government-issued photo ID — Aadhaar, school ID, or any other valid document.

No electronic devices, no stationery other than pens provided at the centre. JEECUP is a computer-based test — you won’t be writing anything physically, but you can take rough paper provided at the centre.

After the Exam — Results and Counselling Timeline

Result: Released at jeecup.admissions.nic.in a few days after the exam concludes (approximately June 2026). The result is issued as a Rank Card — showing your score, percentile, and rank in your group.

Counselling: Begins June 5, 2026. This is where seat allotment happens. The process includes:

  1. Online registration for counselling (separate from exam registration)
  2. Counselling fee payment — ₹3,000 seat acceptance fee (adjusted against admission fee later)
  3. Choice filling — you select colleges and branches in order of preference
  4. Seat allotment — JEECUP allots based on your rank, choices, and seat availability
  5. Document verification — you report to the allotted institute with originals
  6. Admission — fee payment and enrollment at the college

Multiple counselling rounds happen. If you’re not satisfied with your first allotment, you can participate in subsequent rounds where new seats open up or students surrender earlier allotments.

Important: Counselling is mandatory. A good JEECUP rank does not automatically give you a seat — you must register and participate in the counselling process. Missing the counselling window means losing your chance for that year regardless of your score.

What Rank Do You Need for a Government College

This is the question every UP student asks. Here is honest guidance based on previous year closing ranks:

Top government polytechnics in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra (CSE/IT branches): Closing ranks typically under 500–800 for General category. These seats go fast.

Government polytechnics in district headquarters (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical): Closing ranks usually between 2,000–8,000 depending on branch and district. Mechanical and Civil tend to close later than CSE.

Government polytechnics in semi-urban/rural areas: Many branches close between 10,000–40,000. These are still government seats with regulated fees and decent industry connections in their regions.

Private polytechnics: Accept students with ranks up to 1,00,000 and beyond, depending on the institution and branch.

The cutoff changes every year based on the number of applicants and available seats. The numbers above are approximate. For exact previous year cutoffs by college and branch, check the JEECUP official website after results are declared.

JEECUP vs POLYCET — For Students Eligible for Both

Some students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh working in UP, or UP students who meet Telangana/AP domicile criteria, sometimes ask about applying to both. In practice, JEECUP and POLYCET serve separate states and separate seat pools.

If you are a Telangana or AP student, your primary option is POLYCET — which is the relevant exam for you. JEECUP is for Uttar Pradesh domicile students. Applying to the wrong exam does not help you get seats.

For UP students, JEECUP is the correct and only route to polytechnic admission in the state.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Selecting the wrong group during registration. Each group has a different syllabus and leads to different courses. Group A is Engineering. Group E is D. Pharma. Group C is for lateral entry (if you already have a 10+2 Science background and want to join 2nd year directly). Read the group descriptions carefully on the official website before selecting.

Entering your name differently from your Class 10 certificate. If there’s a mismatch between your application name and your Class 10 document, it creates problems at document verification during counselling — sometimes resulting in cancellation of allotment.

Not noting down your application number immediately after registration. The system generates it once. If you don’t save it and the confirmation doesn’t reach your email, recovering it requires contacting JEECUP helpline. Just write it down on paper as soon as it appears.

Assuming you don’t need counselling registration separately. Many students score well in JEECUP, then miss the counselling registration window thinking it’s automatic. It isn’t. Watch jeecup.admissions.nic.in from late May for counselling dates.

Guessing blindly on difficult questions. JEECUP has negative marking. A blank answer scores 0. A wrong answer costs you 1 mark. If you eliminate even two options and have a feeling about the remaining two, attempting makes statistical sense. If you have no idea at all, leaving it blank is smarter.

Frequently Asked Questions

JEECUP 2026 ke liye last date kya hai?

Online registration ki last date April 30, 2026 hai. Apply karo jeecup.admissions.nic.in par. Application fee ₹300 (General/OBC) aur ₹200 (SC/ST) hai. Exam May 15–22 ke beech hoga.

Can Class 10 appearing students apply for JEECUP 2026?

Yes. Students currently appearing for Class 10 exams in 2026 are eligible to apply. You must have passed Class 10 with 35% minimum marks to be admitted through counselling later.

Is there negative marking in JEECUP 2026?

Yes — 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Each correct answer gives 4 marks. This is different from POLYCET which has no negative marking. Selective answering strategy works better here than attempting every question.

How many rounds of JEECUP counselling are there?

Typically 4 to 6 rounds including spot rounds. If you don’t get your preferred college in round 1, you can participate in later rounds where surrendered seats become available.

What is the JEECUP seat acceptance fee?

₹3,000, paid at the time of counselling registration. This amount is later adjusted against the admission fee at the allotted college.

Can I change my exam centre after applying?

Generally not possible after the form is submitted. Choose your preferred district carefully during registration.

What are the best diploma branches through JEECUP for employment?

Computer Science/IT, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering consistently show the strongest employment outcomes through BTEUP colleges. For detailed analysis of each branch, read our guide on choosing the best polytechnic branch.

Eighteen days is enough time to apply, but not enough to waste. The form itself takes 20 minutes. The only decision that takes longer is choosing the right group — and if you need help with that, the answer usually comes down to what you enjoyed in Class 10: Math-heavy problems (Engineering), Biology and Chemistry (Pharmacy), or something more niche.

Whatever the answer, apply before April 30.
